The Friends of the Piedmont Avenue Branch Library was
formed in 1993 when our library was facing budget cuts and possible
closure. We have continued to work for the Piedmont Avenue Branch
Library reaching out to the community to advocate for our and
other Oakland libraries.
With donations and proceeds of book
sales we fund the Children’s Summer Reading Program, LGBT
collection, DVD collection, magazine and newspaper subscriptions
and community outreach programs.

you wish to make a donation to the Piedmont Avenue Branch Library,

Our Library Hours, Events & Programs
are available here.
Our library is a vital resource and community
hub; the fourth busiest of the 17 branches in the system.
The
charming building on 41st Street where the library was located
for 40 years was owned by Citibank and rented to the Library
for $1 per month. In 2009 the building was purchased by Goohhue
Investments and the rent increased beyond our budget. We are
now located at 80 Echo Avenue - one half block from Piedmont
Ave.
After researching the options, the Library
moved to a portable building on the grounds of Piedmont
Avenue Elementary School. The lease was approved by the
OUSD Board of Education and Oakland's City Council. This
is a short term solution. The next step is to find and fund a
permanent location.
Please join the Friends to support our beloved
library and to be involved in a long term solution by going to
